Always looking to be just a little more than a thrift store, SOS Children’s Village in Steveston has pushed the boat out again with its window display.

This time the charity has decorated its storefront in a theme of world peace, with a special focus on the crisis in Ukraine right now.

And it is using beanie bears to spread the word.

As well as having “United Beanies for Peace,” as store manager Yasmin Tang is calling them, the display includes a globe, a CND symbol for peace and plenty of blue and yellow in honour of besieged Ukraine.

“We did climate change awareness during Christmas time, now we got lovely donation of beanie bears, so we created the theme ‘United beanies for Peace’ to express another strong message to stop the war,” Tang told the Richmond News.

In the past, the Moncton Street store has decorated its window in Robbie Burns’ Scottish regalia, an Easter bunny theme and a Canucks theme to cheer up people during the pandemic.
