The Arrival of the S.V. Titania has been repainted on the Steveston Hotel.

A ship has sailed back to Steveston – well, a painting of a ship, that is.

A replica of John Horton’s Arrival of the S.V. Titania has been repainted on the south wall of the Steveston Hotel by mural artist Dean Lauze.

Last winter, city staff noted the original mural, painted for the Canada 150 celebrations, was peeling and in rough shape.

City staff recommended just removing it, but city council wanted to see it repainted somewhere.

The staff recommendation was to paint it at the Fishermen’s Washrooms at Third Avenue and Bayview Street.

The majority of city council voted against this location, however, and voted for repainting it on the Steveston Hotel.

The Steveston Hotel is undergoing changes after the Buck and Ear pub closed in May. The owner planned to turn the pub area into five boutique hotel rooms.
