The popular annual herring sale to help kids with cancer is returning to Steveston this Saturday, and tickets are going fast.
The 14th annual herring sale, organized by Fishermen Helping Kids with Cancer, will be held at the Steveston Harbour Authority on Trites Road on Jan. 11 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Around 6,000 bags of herrings are expected to be sold to around 3,000 customers.
One bag of herring, approximately 20 pounds, will cost $20. Tickets are only sold online with specific pick-up time slots.
The B.C. commercial fishing industry covers all the costs of the event so proceeds can be donated to help kids in need, according to Fishermen Helping Kids with Cancer in a media statement.
All proceeds will go to support kids being treated for cancer at BC Children's Hospital, helping make their hospital stay more comfortable with iPads, video game systems and other gifts.
Since 2011, the B.C. fishing industry has raised more than $1 million for kids being treated for cancer.
The sale will take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 12740 Trites Rd.
