Out and About: Steveston farmers market moves to picturesque location

Richmond News contributor captures sights from the Steveston Farmers & Artisans Market. The next market date in July 27, 2025.

Enthusiastic crowds greeted the move of the Steveston farmers market to its new location in Garry Point Park, a beautiful setting with waterfront views.

The Steveston Farmers & Artisans Market (SFAM) is one of Richmond’s close connections with our agricultural past and present. The market is on site every two weeks, as per their online schedule, listed below.

This new location is well occupied with a wide range of goods, including fresh fruit and vegetables, excellent baked goods (breads, buns and treats), food stalls with sauces, prepared snacks and meals, clothing, works of art and woodworking, and health products — and excellent live music. A Market Information Booth is staffed by very helpful people.

There is a Comfort Zone near the entrance, for those who want to take a break from shopping. Nearby benches and tables within the park are handy for consuming the drinks and eats from the food booths. Parking is available within the park and dogs on leash on welcome.

The market is thriving under a volunteer committee that works as part of the Richmond Agricultural and Industrial Society (RAIS), a not-for-profit organization.

The monies that flow from the market help to support the Steveston Community Centre for projects such as the Steveston Water Park and the construction work on the Steveston Playground.

Thanks to the City of Richmond, the market was able to relocate  to the Garry Point Park site while the construction takes place on the new community centre.

Garry Point Park is located in the southwest corner of Richmond, between Chatham and Moncton streets on 7th Avenue.

For market dates, opening hours and other information, go to the Steveston Farmers & Artisans Market webpage.

For those who are unfamiliar with Garry Point Park, this location boasts access to popular walking trails and points of interest in the area, not to mention stunning waterfront views.
