The scarecrows strike again during the third annual Steveston Scarecrow Crawl, presented by the Steveston Merchants Association (SMA).

Throughout the month of October, Steveston merchants will decorate a scarecrow to guard their shops.

Last year, more than 60 men of straw lurked around the business district, cleverly dressed to reflect the personality of the business.

Themes range from the traditional to the whimsical and nautical scarecrows.

Visitors who go on the crawl have the opportunity to stop and pose with the scarecrows, while checking out local businesses in Steveston.

The event is a work in progress, so new scarecrows are constantly popping up around the corner.

The SMA is committed to steering business to the village year round. The first Scarecrow Crawl in 2010 was an astounding success, leaving the association to make it an annual celebration.

Also in Steveston is the Scaraecrow Hayday on Sunday, Oct. 14 from 1 to 3 p.m. The event includes live music, pumpkin rolling, sack races, and a children's pie eating contest. For more information, contact info@exploresteveston. com, or visit www.exploresteveston.com.
