While Santa photos and visits at Cadillac Fairview Richmond Centre are cancelled this year, families and children can still connect with Saint Nicholas through video calls this holiday season.

Richmond residents can expect virtual story time with Santa every Saturday as well as a chance to chat with Santa in a video call.

“While we know this may be disappointing for families who look forward to this annual tradition, we firmly believe this is the best decision and we are confident that our virtual Santa experiences will deliver all of the magic of the holidays,” said Craig Flannagan, vice-president of marketing at Cadillac Fairview.

Virtual story time will be 15-minutes long and will be held online at CF Richmond Centre’s Instagram or Facebook page in both English and French.

The schedule for the weekly online stories is:

  • Nov. 28 at 6:30 p.m.
  • Dec. 5 at 6:30 p.m.
  • Dec. 12 at 6:30 p.m.
  • Dec. 19 Episode at 6:30 p.m.

Families who wish to speak with Santa in a video can make reservations starting Nov. 26 at the Richmond Centre's website.

Meanwhile, Richmond’s McArthurGlen Outlet has also cancelled their annual Santa visit and tree lighting event.

Various Christmas decorations and a giant Christmas Tree have already been set up at the outlet.

Chrisanna Chan, spokesperson for McArthurGlen Outlet, said the safety of the public and shoppers is their priority for the holiday season this year and reminds the public to “stay within their bubbles” during this time.

The outlet is asking all shoppers to wear their masks, maintain social distancing and sanitize their hands to keep themselves and everyone else safe.
