A Richmond business student is one of 20 Canadian students to receive a $5,000 scholarship from Export Development Canada (EDC).

Jia Yi (Dixon) Huang, who is currently pursuing commerce at the Smith School of Business at Queen’s University, said he is “extremely grateful” for EDC’s support.

“As the first generation of my family to pursue higher education, the journey has been filled with financial and navigational challenges,” he explained.

“However, the EDC international business scholarship has not only relieved my financial burdens but also provided me with opportunities to connect with a diverse group of individuals.”

EDC is Canada’s export credit agency dedicated to helping Canadian companies.

Each year, it offers scholarships to post-secondary students who demonstrate “a high level of academic achievement and a commitment to community."

More than 600 international business scholarships worth more than $2 million have been awarded since 2000.

Recipients of the EDC international business scholarship are also eligible to participate in EDC’s work term and co-op placements, as well as receive mentorship and additional learning opportunities.
