An owl photo taken in Richmond is currently in first place in BC SPCA’s annual Wildlife-in-Focus Photo Fundraiser Contest.

Richmond resident Anabelle Wee submitted an image of a short-eared owl taken at Richmond’s West Dyke earlier this year, which is in the lead with 1,540 votes at the time of publication.

The contest raises funds for food and medical care for wildlife in need at the BC SPCA Wild Arc, which cares for thousands of injured and orphaned wild animals each year.

Winners of the contest will receive the People’s Choice Award and will get their photos featured on BC SPCA merchandise, brochures, campaigns, social media and websites.

Photographers are judged on originality, technical excellence, composition, overall impact and artistic merit.

The photo contest runs until May 31 with voting ending at 11:59 p.m.
