Success, a Richmond-based immigrant settlement organization, is looking for new volunteers to join their helpline to make a positive impact on the local community.
Led by trained volunteers, the helpline provides Chinese-speaking newcomers with confidential emotional support and referrals to community resources to solve a wide range of life issues.
Although it’s a Chinese-language helpline, volunteers from diverse cultural backgrounds are welcome, even if they don’t speak any Chinese language, said Queenie Choo, CEO of Success.
“Having a passion for helping others is more important than speaking the language. Volunteers can share their key interests with us and we will try to find positions that will closely align with their interests,” said Choo.
Volunteering will bring a world of rewards for volunteers themselves. The process of empowering those in need can help volunteers build their confidence, experience new things and make friendships that could last for a lifetime, according to Choo.
“Volunteers from our organization are very caring and have a heart of gold. Many of them become close friends after spending so much time working together,” said Choo.
Applicants are required to fill out an online application (www.bit.do/chinesehelpline), and later, they will be contacted by staff to arrange a Zoom video interview. Meanwhile, applicants also need to complete a criminal record check online and commit to taking one four-hour shift per week in Richmond.
Qualified applicants will receive intensive training to provide quality services for those in need.
