The Richmond Food Bank is hosting an open house this Friday to thank its donors, volunteers and supporters for keeping the service running over the last 35 years.

In recognition of its three and a half decades of operating, without any funding from any level of government, the food bank is opening its doors Friday, May 11 from 1 to 3 p.m. at its 5800 Cedarbridge Way location.

“We’re very grateful for the support of 2500 donors, 230 weekly volunteers, and countless volunteer groups,” said Hajira Hussain, Richmond Food Bank executive director.

“We are able to help more than 2,200 people each week because of their generosity.

“We receive no financial support from any level of government.  The continued donations of money, time, and food are crucial to helping our neighbours in need.”

The open house, said the food bank, is an opportunity to see how the public’s support serves Richmond residents in need.

They will be showcasing their many programs, including their grocery distribution, school meals and community information programs.
