Richmond’s Kajaks community is mourning the loss of one of their own, George Agnew.
Described as a “man with a heart of gold,” Agnew was a member of the Kajaks Track and Field Club from 1978 to 2018 with “unequalled” contributions to the club.
Agnew wore many hats during his time with the Kajaks including race director, club manager, organizer, race team member, athlete and more.
As an athlete, he won a total of 10 gold and silver pentathlon medals at the BC Seniors Games.
He received the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Medal, Masters Athlete of the year five times, and was recognized by the City of Richmond with a certificate of appreciation in the builder category.
Condolence messages have been submitted online since Agnew's passing earlier this month.
A celebration of life will be held for Agnew at the Granville Chapel in the spring of 2024.
