Richmond city council grants Summer Night Market three-year permit

Richmond's Summer Night Market was granted a three-year temporary use permit by city council on Monday night at city hall. The permit allows the popular night market to operate in its original location behind Home Depot.

Paul Cheung, CEO of Lions Communications Inc. which runs the market, said, "We have been working hard to prepare a fun and entertaining multicultural outdoor event for our visitors.

"Hurricane potatoes, spicy curry fish balls, Thai bamboo rice, skewers are just a sample of our tasty selections from the food court. We will have entertainment for all ages available throughout the market: Playzone, karaoke, car and bike displays, magic shows, eating contest, belly dancing, singing competitions and Bhangra performances to name a few. In our merchandise area, visitors will be able to peruse for socks, toys, electric bikes, hand crafted jewelry, phone accessories and more."

Last year, BBC Travel lauded Richmond's Summer Night Market as one of the world's top night markets.

It is located at 12631 Vulcan Way and opens Friday, May 11 until Sept. 16.

It is open every Friday and Saturday from 7 p.m. to midnight and Sunday, Monday and holidays from 7 to 11 p.m. For more information, visit www. summernightmarket.com.
