Framing Richmond: Sunday photo gallery

Have you taken any photos in Richmond this week?

Happy Sunday!

The Richmond News continues to receive awesome photos from around the city, with always a strong focus on the natural beauty of Richmond.

There are still some cherry blossom trees in full bloom and baby birds making their way into this world.

Photos this week were taken in many neighbourhoods in Richmond including Steveston, London Landing, Terra Nova, City Centre, Minoru Park, Iona Beach Regional Park and along the many dykes in Richmond.

Birds are often a focal point for many of our photographers, and they really know their birds.

This week, GMR regular Geoff McDonell gave us this explanation of the importance of mudflats:

"The seasonal migration of shorebirds along the coast is a treat for us in Richmond, witnessing the thousands of sandpipers and other shorebirds passing through to their nesting grounds in the northern areas. Richmond is blessed with many tidal estuary and extensive mudflats that support the biofilm that the migrating sandpipers forage upon.

The Steveston Channel around London’s Landing has a few mudflats exposed at low tides and recently flocks of sandpipers have been swooshing around to the various feeding areas along the channel. Currently hundreds of Dunlin, Least Sandpipers and Western Sandpipers are moving around as they make their way north."

This week's contributors are Roger Bryant, Sohani Faria, Judy Quinn, Janice Adams, Doug Costea, Danielle Wee, Bessie Chum, Angie Tam, Allisa Ritchie, Johnny Choi, Anabelle Wee, Dave McKinnon, Rhona Gibson, Ngam Chua, Lay Tan, Lanie Man, Keith Van Vliet, Geoff McDonell, Caroline Sayson and Angela Gauld.

Enjoy!
