École des Navigateurs in Richmond unveiled its new greenhouse.

A Richmond French public school has a new greenhouse on its school grounds.

École des Navigateurs unveiled the new greenhouse during its annual summer festival on June 12 after two years of planning and construction.

The school's dream of building a greenhouse was spearheaded by teachers and parents who wanted an outdoor learning space.

"We are absolutely delighted to see this dream become a reality," said Karine Boily, principal at École des Navigateurs.

"This greenhouse will not only provide incredible opportunities for our students to learn about ecology, gardening and healthy eating, but it will also serve as a hub for community engagement and sustainability. We are so grateful to everyone who contributed to this project."

Supplies for the foundation and structure of the greenhouse came from TMG Industrial, an industrial equipment supplier in Richmond.

Christine Chan with Turner Construction gathered a team of volunteers who helped pour the foundation and assemble the greenhouse.

Meanwhile, Joanna Dunn at Richmond's Home Depot supplied planters and starter kits with seeds to jumpstart the environmental learning project.

This project is not only a space to grow plants, but a way for students to engage directly with nature, understand food systems and develop valuable life skills, according to an email from the school's parents' advisory council.

"It is envisioned as a central element in the school's commitment to environmental education and community building."
