Like most community organizations, adapting to the new world of living in a pandemic has been challenging.
The Richmond Amateur Radio Club (RARC) is no exception, hence their next Basic Qualification radio course, on Saturday, Oct. 24, will be offered in a virtual environment due to pandemic restrictions and accumulated demand.
The curriculum, according to RARC, will be delivered online over five Saturday morning sessions from 9 a.m. to noon with the exam on the sixth Saturday, Nov. 28.
The registration fee of $80 for the course includes classroom instructions, course study guide, instructors’ notes, course exam, and call sign registration upon passing exam.
Successful students will also each receive a one-year trial membership with RARC.
The course prepares students for the Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED) Basic Qualification Operator Certificate exam to transmit on allocated amateur radio frequencies, and also aims at meeting the following objectives:
- Promote interest in the amateur radio hobby,
- Create awareness of amateur radio’s role in emergency communications, and
- Generate membership interest in RARC and other amateur radio organizations.
RARC has been successfully graduating students into the amateur radio hobby, with many becoming active participants in specific amateur radio activities, supporters at local community events, and volunteers with emergency communications organizations in the community.
