Richmond youths are invited to join a city-wide program to learn about the local government in January.
The Youth Civic Engagement Program (YCEP) is a free eight-week program that focuses on creating opportunities for youth aged 15 to 23 to learn how city decisions are made.
Youths will also have the opportunity to co-design projects and present back to a “mock council.”
This year, the program will be held online every Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. starting Jan. 20.
YCEP was created when a group of Richmond youth brought forward a proposal to city council in June of 2019.
The students wanted an opportunity to learn and have a hands-on-experience in political decision making.
