Photos: Steveston store celebrates 30th birthday in style

The SOS Children's Village store marked the milestone with a band, a giant sale and a fashion show

An “amazing day” was had by all at a Steveston store’s 30th birthday on the weekend.

And around $4,500 was raised at the same time, as the SOS Children’s Village on Moncton Street celebrated its milestone.

The vast majority of the funds came via the entire store being 50 per cent off, as well as raffle prizes and the tips donated by local band The Lindas, which played at the party.

SOS logo cookies were also on offer from the local Sinfully bakery.

“The big attraction was the cool young volunteer musicians, who came to perform music in front of the store,” said store manager Yasmin Tang.

“Their styles and beats stopped everyone on the street and brought the joy to the whole event.

“The main band organizer Nicholas Smith, with his performers, donated $150 in tips to the store at the end.”

The highlight, added Tang, was the "home style" fashion show, with 25 models, young and old, including customers, showing off many of the store’s hidden gems.

“It was a successful community-involved event, it helped us to improve the public awareness of what we were doing.”
