The Steveston Dragon Boat Festival will run until 7:30 p.m. today on Aug. 20 and the Richmond Maritime Festival will go on until 6 p.m. on Aug. 21.

Steveston's boardwalk was buzzing with excitement on Saturday morning as two festivals were held side by side.

The Steveston Dragon Boat Festival kicked off at 9 a.m. with the preliminary heats, filling the air with rhythmic drumming and enthusiastic cheers.

Spectators and athletes alike enjoyed the sunshine as they watched the races along the river, accompanied with live entertainment and delicious food trucks.

Just a couple of minutes away at the Britannia Heritage Shipyard, the Richmond Maritime Festival was also in full swing.

Families enjoyed free caricatures and DIY workshops, while learning about Richmond's seafaring history.

The Steveston Dragon Boat Festival's medal ceremonies are starting at 3 p.m. and the festival will close at 7 p.m. today on Aug. 20.

The Richmond Maritime Festival, on the other hand, is running from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Aug. 20 and 21.
