Photos: Hundreds at Sunday's Richmond Cherry Blossom Festival

Garry Point Park was filled with kids, pets and families for the festival.

Despite the rain, many visitors were at Garry Point Park for Richmond's Cherry Blossom Festival on Sunday.

The annual Richmond Cherry Blossom Festival returned with an in-person event that had giant white tents and food trucks lining Garry Point's parking lot.

Richmond Mayor Malcolm Brodie was joined by city councillors and the Kohei Maruyama, Consul General of Japan in Vancouver, for a welcome message at the festival.

Families with their kids and pets were at the event where there were tea ceremonies, craft displays and calligraphy booths.

Under another big white tent, there were flower arrangement demonstrations and other performances such as taiko drummers, folk singers and dancers on the main stage.

This year's festival's theme is kansha, which means gratitude or appreciation in Japanese.
