Photos: Annual Steveston dog parade holiday cheer

Community members strutted down the boardwalk in their best festive outfits, undeterred by the rain.

The drizzling rain was no match for the festive spirit displayed on Steveston's boardwalk on Sunday morning.

Community members and their four-legged friends showed up at the balloon arch by Phoenix Pond in their best holiday outfits — and rain gear — on Dec. 10 for the second annual Steveston Holiday Dog Parade.

Dogs wearing reindeer antlers, Santa hats and even riding their own sleighs paraded down to the Gulf of Georgia Cannery during a 30-minute parade.

Community members greeted their fluffy neighbours with warm welcomes, with one dog cheering from a nearby balcony. Festive music blared from both land and sea, as a Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue vessel swung by to greet participants.

Waiting at the end of the parade route were Santa and Mrs. Claus, who welcomed Richmondites and their dogs for a portrait session in their temporary abode in front of the cannery.
