Massive Richmond shoreline clean-up raises awareness about marine debris

More than 2,800 pounds of garbage found along three Richmond shorelines.

Marine nets, an old couch, tires and large pieces of styrofoam were some items found along Richmond shorelines during a cleanup this Saturday.

More than 2,800 pounds of garbage were cleaned by Richmond business community members from the shorelines of Garry Point Park, Terra Nova Rural Park and Nelson Road Beach.

The goal of the shoreline clean-up’s plan was to raise awareness about keeping the Richmond coastline clean and to keep debris out of the city’s waterways.

The event was a joint initiative organized by the Richmond Chamber of Commerce, Platinum Pro-Claim Restoration and 505-Junk and saw several Richmond dignitaries including Member of Parliament for Steveston-Richmond East Parm Bains and Richmond City Councillor Michael Wolfe.
