Kudos: Richmond students deliver 93 flowers, cards to Richmond senior home

Members of a student club at McRoberts secondary hope to bring cheer to seniors during the pandemic.

Students from a McRoberts secondary student club fundraised and donated flowers and handmade cards to seniors at Gilmore Gardens Retirement Residence on Monday.

Iris Gu, president of the student club at, said the idea came from their club sponsor teacher.

"Our teacher mentioned that seniors were isolated because of the pandemic and that it would be a good idea to cheer them up," said Gu.

The student club launched an Easter-themed chocolate fundraiser at school and used the proceeds to purchase the flowers.

In total, 93 potted-flowers and handmade greetings cards, wishing them a happy spring, were delivered.

When the flowers and cards were delivered, Gu and her fellow club members Emma Pohl and Keira Lee said they felt "accomplished" and was excited to be able to bring "joy to the seniors."

"Giving back to our community during this time is important because everyone is in a difficult situation and it's not just the seniors," they said.

"Everyone likes to feel appreciated or even surprised because its a tough time."
