A student club at Kwantlen Polytechnic University fundraised and donated food items to help local food banks support those in need.

KPU’s Social Enterprise Club focuses on educating and promoting all aspects of social enterprise within the school’s community and often runs activities between the Richmond and Surrey campuses.

The club fundraised $500 over four months and used the funds to purchase 1,000 food items, which will be donated to the Vancouver Food Bank.

Damanpreet Garcha, a member of the KPU Social Enterprise Club, said the student members of their club learned that the pandemic has put a lot of stress on local food banks and they wanted to give back in some way.

“After doing some research, we learned that food banks were in need (of) donations more than ever this year and that is how we chose our fundraiser,” said Garcha.

“Without the support of our community, we could not have pulled off this amazing fundraiser.”

While the KPU Social Enterprise Club often holds fundraising events for different not-for-profits, its mission is to also raise awareness on social justice issues.
