Kudos: Car cruise, local organizations donate to Richmond Christmas Fund

Almost $25K was donated to help Richmond families in need celebrate the holidays.

Fundraising is well underway for the Richmond Christmas Fund, which is anticipating a higher demand for help this year.

Last week, the annual Christmas Classic Car Cruise organized by classic car enthusiast Doug Harder managed to raise more than $550 and collected a "truckload" of toys.

"Was it a little rainy? Sure. But the Christmas Classic Car Cruise is built on grassroots community support. Rain or shine, it just keeps growing!" reads the announcement from Richmond Cares, Richmond Gives (RCRG), which organizes the Christmas fund program.

The event saw enthusiastic support from community members despite the rain and the Grinch even made a surprise appearance.

The Richmond Christmas Fund also recently received a donation of $14,250 from Richmond realtors and $10,000 from local company UniUni.

More than 40 local realtors participated in the annual Realtor Challenge fundraising campaign, which has raised more than $150,000 for the Christmas fund since it first began in 2011.

Meanwhile, first-time donor UniUni also lent a hand by sending volunteers to help set up the Christmas Fund's new spot at Lansdowne Centre.
