Hundreds of people turned out last Sunday at Thompson Community Centre for the annual 5K, Investors Group Walk for Alzheimer's.

Richmondite Bryan Springgay was this year’s honoree for the Richmond and Delta region, with similar walks taking place across the country raising a total of $850,000.

The total raised in Richmond is still being collated with many cheques and donations still coming in.

Although Springgay, 71, didn’t make it to the walk himself, his wife, Laileen, took part on his behalf.

The funds raised through the walks allow the Alzheimer’s Society to provide local programs and services to people affected by the disease, so they can live the best life as possible.

Funds will also help enable research into the causes of and the cure for the disease. With the number of people living with dementia increasing, the need for this, according to the society, is critical.
