A local church is organizing a block party with the help of the city's Neighbourhood Celebration Grant.

A block party filled with carnival games, live performances and interactive art activities is happening next Saturday, Aug. 26.

The goal of the Good Neighbour Block Party is to build community connections through the free party and foster a sense of “belonging and pride” among community members, according to Evangelical Formosan Church of Greater Vancouver pastor Joshua Lai.

The block party, organized by the church, will include “a delicious spread of BBQ and foods from various cultures” and feature live music performances by local young artists and groups.

A local artist will be present to work with attendees to create a collaborative art piece based on the theme of “connection,” which will later be displayed in the neighbourhood.

Young participants will also get to enjoy carnival games, ball tosses, a photo booth and a Connect-4 contest.

For those interested in learning more about the Evangelical Formosan Church of Greater Vancouver, information will be available on the resources and services provided by the church and how attendees can get involved with community initiatives.

The block party is funded by the City of Richmond’s Neighbourhood Celebration Program.

“We’re really excited to have the opportunity and support of the city to put on the event to spread peace, love, and joy in our neighborhood,” said Lai.

The party will take place at the church on Williams and No. 5 roads on Aug. 26 from 12 to 3 p.m. For more information, click here.
