A charity golf tournament to raise money for B.C. Children’s Hospital and the Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada is tentatively planned to return for a second year at Mayfair Lakes Golf and Country Club May 25.

The tourney is in honour of five-year-old Evan Singh, who survived leukemia two years ago. It is put on by Evan’s mom and dad, Michelle and Vik Singh.

Last year the Singhs raised nearly $29,000 for the oncology ward and social workers fund at the hospital.

Evan and Michelle were both born in Richmond — Michelle being a Hugh Boyd alumni. The family recently moved to Surrey.

The Singhs consider themselves lucky. Not only did Evan survive, the family was well-supported financially and emotionally, by extended family.

Others weren’t, said Singh.

“You should have seen the parents in hospital; it’s heart breaking,” said Singh.

The money helps families, who are tied up in the hospital, with things such as meals and parking fees.

This year’s tournament — dubbed Evan’s Second Annual Charity Golf Tournament, presented by the Canadian Brewhouse and Grill — is still looking for golfers and sponsors, however. Singh may have to move it to September if a critical mass is not reached.

Eighteen holes, plus a dinner banquet and on course refreshments costs $195. There is also a silent and live auction planned.
