The 5th Annual Victor Ghirra Toy Drive collected more than 3,200 toys - the most ever.

In memory of the man with a golden heart, Santa's helpers from across the Lower Mainland came to the Riverside Palace Hall on Saturday afternoon to donate Christmas gifts for needy children across the province.

It was a record-breaking year as more than double the toys were collected than last year.

Michael Ghirra, Victor's younger brother was touched by the non-stop flow of toys.

"Every year this toy drive gets bigger and better. Thank you for all the overwhelming support from the community. It makes me want to do more every year."

Hugh Boyd secondary students volunteered during the event and also raised $280, with which they bought 80 toys.

The toys collected will be distributed to the following charities: Children's Hospital, Lower Mainland Christmas Bureau, Orphanages of Kenya and the Richmond Christmas Fund.
