Chamber of commerce volunteers cleared trash from Richmond park

Volunteers cleaned up trash and debris from Steveston's Garry Point Park on Saturday, Oct. 1.

The shoreline is cleaner by one shoe (and other debris) after Richmond Chamber of Commerce members cleaned up Garry Point Park this past Saturday, Oct. 1.

Around 30 members of the chamber and their families showed up in the morning to volunteer to clear the entire shoreline and park area. Their finds included a single shoe, along with water bottles, nylon marine nets, empty beer cans, broken glass, marine foam, plastic utensils and plastic confetti.

The chamber also took the chance to educate participants about Bylaw 10000, which came into force in 2022 and banned the use of single-use plastics in Richmond.

Volunteers were provided with buckets, gloves and pickers from Platinum Pro Claim Restoration, and the initiative was supported by the city's Environmental Enhancement Grant.
