Cambie secondary's spring play starts March 11 and runs until the 13th.

A “dramedy” show is set to hit Cambie secondary’s stage this week.

Snow Angel, written by Tony award-winning playwright David Lindsay-Abaire, takes places in the 90s and follows a group of teenagers and Eva – a character who appears in a blizzard – in a small town called Deerpoint in Vermont.

“It’s questioned if Eva is real or an imaginary person, which plays on the idea of belief and if people believe,” said Megan Preston, drama teacher at Cambie secondary.

Mathea Vital, a Grade 12 student, plays the character of Eva in the show.

“Eva is very diverse in that she acts differently when interacting with other characters in the play,” said Vital, adding that her character is hard to play.

“I think it’s a challenge for me because I’ve never had that role before.”

According to Preston, everyone is dedicated to the play, which is put together by a student team of 16 actors and 12 crew from Grades 8 to 12, who’ve been working hard since November.

Preston told the Richmond News that Cambie alumni, Kelvin Lui, lighting designer, Charlene Puche, set designer and fellow teacher and costume designer June Sanders have returned to help with the production.

“This year, we also have Ivan Podmorrof joining us to help with the set construction,” said Preston.

“The theatre at Cambie is just a really nice place to be and the production is just another example of everyone working together, common goal, supporting each other and creating something magical.”

Snow Angel will be playing at Cambie secondary from March 11 to 13 starting at 7 p.m. Admission is $10.
