From spot prawn season to help sort ocean plastics, there's something for everyone in Richmond this weekend.
1. Spot Prawn season
Spot prawn season is here, and sales have begun at Steveston's Fisherman's Wharf. Many vendors have begun pre-sale orders, but many are also accepting walk-ins. Some vendors are asking the public to bring their own coolers and bags to reduce plastic bag use when possible.

2. Safety Fair
Richmond RCMP is celebrating 75 years of serving the community and the public is invited to join in Police Week activities.
A safety fair is being held this weekend, where families of all ages can learn about safety and community awareness while having fun.
Date: Saturday, May 17, from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Location: Aberdeen Centre, 4151 Hazelbridge Way
3. Visit the circus
Royal Canadian International Circus is back in town this long weekend. Watch acrobatics and death-defying acts under the big top tents.

4. Ocean plastic sorting
The Ocean Legacy Foundation is hosting a weekend-long ocean plastic sorting event. This includes sorting fibrous plastics like ropes and nets that have been collected.

5. Learn to start your own small business
Two local businesses are hosting a Q&A session to share and answer questions from people who are looking at starting their own small business.
Little Pisces and Just Pizza owners Linda and Jan will share what it has been like for them to run their business in the hospitality world, from startup struggles to the daily wins.
Tickets include a drink at the event.
