Richmond Hospital staff found themselves a pleasant surprise during their coffee break Wednesday -- thanks to an anonymous donor.

According to a Facebook post on Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)’s page, a visitor pre-paid for coffee for medical professionals at the Richmond Hospital’s Starbucks.

Jacquie, an employee at Starbucks, was ringing up the customer’s coffee when he asked what the maximum dollar amount could be put on a gift card.

He was told there was no maximum limit, which then prompted him to add a $500 gift card to his purchase.

When the coffee and card was paid for, the donor gave the gift card back to Jacquie and asked they use it to pay for the medical staff’s coffees that afternoon.

“The $500 card lasted about two hours. When staff learned that their coffee was already paid for, they were surprised and thankful for this amazing act of kindness,” said VCH on its Facebook page.

“Random acts of kindness mean even more during times like this,” it added.
