Monday was the last day to submit paperwork to run in the federal election and the final lists were posted today.
One candidate who hadn’t publicly declared his intention to run showed up on the Steveston-Richmond East list – Ping Chan is running as an independent.
Chan ran in the 2013 provincial election, under the BC Excalibur Party, in Richmond East, garnering 175 votes. At first, he was going to run as a Green candidate, but he switched parties.
Steveston-Richmond East has five candidates, Joe Peschisolido (Liberal), Kenny Chiu (Conservative), Jaeden Dela Torre (NDP), Nicole Iaci and Chan. Richmond Centre has six candidates: Alice Wong (Conservative), Steven Kou (Liberal), Dustin Innes (NDP), Francoise Raunet (Green), Ivan Pak (People’s Party of Canada) and Zhang Zhe (independent).
The PPC didn’t field a candidate for Steveston-Richmond East although they planned to have one in every riding.
CARP and climate hub host all-candidates meeting on Thursday, Oct. 3
The Richmond chapter of the Canadian Association for Retired Persons (CARP) will host the first meeting on Oct. 3 from 1 to 3 p.m., with topics such as health care, financial security, safety and abuse prevention and caregiving.
In the evening on Oct. 3, one of a hundred nation-wide election debates on climate change is scheduled to take place at RC Palmer secondary from 7 to 9 p.m. with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. The debate is organized the Richmond Climate Hub and GreenSeeds Music Society. The public can submit questions in advance of the event by going to the website sli.do and using the confirmation code G441. RC Palmer secondary is located at 8160 St. Albans Rd.
Ismaili community hosts candidates on Oct. 8
An all-candidates town hall forum will be held by the Ismaili community on Oct. 8 at their Richmond place of worship. Three candidates, Alice Wong, Joe Peschisolido and Francoise Raunet, will attend.
The topics for the forum include affordable housing, creating jobs to build strong, prosperous communities and how to make communities safer and more sustainable without having an impact on the environment.
Aliya Mohamed, head of media relations with Translink, will moderate the town hall.
The town hall will be held on Oct. 8 at 8:30 p.m. at the Ismaili Centre, 4000 May Dr., Richmond. Doors open at 8:15 p.m.
