An independent candidate has joined the race to become the member of Parliament for Richmond Centre – Zhang Zhe describes himself as having a background in IT and political science, saying he’s passionate about tech, philosophy and politics.

An independent candidate has joined the race to become the member of Parliament for Richmond Centre – Zhang Zhe describes himself as having a background in IT and political science, saying he’s passionate about tech, philosophy and politics.

Zhe ran for councillor in the 2018 municipal election in Richmond but was unsuccessful, and listed himself as a teacher during that election.

Those registered with Elections Canada as of Sunday are Kenny Chiu (Conservative) and Nicole Iaci (Green) in Steveston-Richmond East. In Richmond Centre, Dustin Innes (NDP), Ivan Pak (PPC), Francoise Raunet (Green), Alice Wong (Conservative) and Zhe Zhang (independent) were listed on the Elections Canada website.

Spending limits

Each party and candidate have limits on how much they spend on their campaign.

In Richmond Centre, political parties can spend $76,153 and candidates can spend $102,820. In Steveston-Richmond East, political parties can spend $76,727 and candidates can spend $103,029.
