Map showing weekly number of COVID-19 cases in the Greater Vancouver region, by health service delivery area: North Shore – Coast Garibaldi (North and West Vancouver, Bowen Island, Sunshine Coast, Powell River, Howe Sound, Bella Coola Valley and Central Coast); Vancouver; Richmond; Fraser North (New Westminster, Burnaby, Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows and Tri-Cities) and Fraser South (Langley, Delta, Surrey, South Surrey/White Rock).

The number of COVID-19 cases detected in Richmond this past week dropped by more than half.

There were 69 new cases, as reported by the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) on Friday afternoon.

Last week, BCCDC reported 145 new cases over the previous week.

In its data map, the number of daily cases also dropped – before it was recorded as between five and 10 per day per 100,000 population; this past week, that number was only between one and five per day.

The total number of COVID-19 cases detected in Richmond since the beginning of the pandemic is 1,711.

However, the BCCDC caution that not everyone who has COVID-19 is tested and it could be circulating undetected in the community.

COVID-19 outbreaks have persisted at Minoru Residence and Fraserview Intermediate Care Lodge.

So far, 70 residents and staff have tested positive at Minoru and there have been seven deaths.

At Fraserview, 41 people have tested positive – both staff and residents – and there have been six deaths.

Across the province, there were 509 new cases of COVID-19 reported on Friday in the previous 24 hours and nine new deaths. There were 349 people in hospital and 68 in intensive care.
