Richmond kicks off annual Street Banner Contest with neighbourhood theme

The City of Richmond’s annual Street Banner Contest has kicked off and is accepting entries from artists of all ages and abilities.

This year’s contest theme focuses on capturing the diversity of residents’ day-to-day experiences in their own neighbourhoods.

Submissions can be in various forms, including photography, graphic design, collage, water colour and oil paintings.

Contest submissions should reflect on one of the 10 themes:

  • Resilience
  • Community
  • Connection
  • Wellness
  • Active Living
  • Urban Landscape
  • Nature
  • Island City
  • The Arts
  • Sustainability

Up to 20 submissions will be shortlisted by a judging panel of community volunteer members, with the final judging by public vote.

A total of 10 winners from each category will be selected and showcased on 1,000 street banners throughout Richmond’s downtown, walking paths and main roads in and out of the city starting February 2021.

Winners will be awarded $300 honorarium and a full-sized banner featuring their submission.

Submissions will be accepted until Sept. 18 at 5 p.m.
