A Richmond church is hosting an evening workshop and seminar about preparing for emergencies.

As part of the City of Richmond’s Resilient Communities (RRC) series, the workshop, which is open to the public, will be held on Tuesday, July 9 at 6:15 p.m. at Our Saviour Lutheran Church on No. 4 Road, near Westminster Highway.

RRC is designed to provide residents with the tools and knowledge to prepare themselves, their families, and their communities to be resilient to emergencies of all sizes.

Through interactive discussions and group-based activities, participants will:

Build knowledge and awareness of local hazards and risks;

Create basic family emergency plans;

Learn what actions to take before, during and after emergencies;

Learn how to stay informed during emergencies.

One of the event organizers, Delores Werk, said she helped host a similar event at her apartment building recently.

And it was such a success, she wanted to extend it to her church community.

“It was so professional, insightful and informative that I brought it to the attention of my residence building,” she told the Richmond News.

This event is being presented by Harpreet Jaswal, of the City of Richmond emergency programs department.
