The nominations are now open for the annual Volunteers are Stars Award in Richmond.

The awards honour those individuals and groups who give their time to make the community what it is today.

The event itself happens April 9 at the Pacific Gateway Hotel and is organized by Richmond Cares, Richmond Gives (RCRG).

A total of seven awards will be presented in four categories, with nominations being accepted for individual volunteers, volunteer groups, youth volunteers, and non-profit leaders.

Nominations can be submitted online at RCRG.org/VAS until March 11.

“It’s a celebration of volunteers and all that they contribute to our community,” says Ed Gavsie, president and CEO of RCRG.

“From healthcare, to social services, to sports and recreation, volunteers are part of the fabric of Richmond, making a difference every day.

“Last year, the community submitted 43 nominations…Every one of them was a brilliant, inspiring volunteer, and that will surely be the case again in 2019.

“With so many volunteers doing amazing work, we’d love to see even more nominations this year.”

Following a two-year hiatus, the awards returned in 2018, with over 250 community members attending the sold-out event.

Pacific Gateway Hotel will serve as host and presenting sponsor for the second year in a row.

“Pacific Gateway Hotel is a wonderful community supporter,” added Gavsie.

“We’re proud to work with them again to honour Richmond’s outstanding volunteers.”
