Free stress-relieving workshops are being provided to Richmond caregivers in the next two weeks.
Richmond Cares Richmond Gives (RCRG) is hosting an introduction to Chinese calligraphy workshop as well as two laughter yoga workshops for seniors who provide unpaid care to another older adult.
According to studies, practicing artforms like calligraphy has calming effects, which are similar to meditation, while laughter yoga encourages voluntarily laughter and can reduce stress and enhance a sense of wellbeing.
“It’s important that family caregivers have a chance to unwind,” said Carol Dickson, manager of RCRG’s Seniors Community Support Services.
She adds that their Relax, Recharge, Reset workshop series give caregivers a chance to manage their stress and not feel overwhelmed by learning new techniques and meet new friends.
“The workshops become a supportive space where caregivers can form new friendships.”
