Richmond concert celebrates Canadian heritage

The Somerset Trio will perform at a matinee concert on June 28.

A concert on the Friday leading up to the Canada Day long weekend will feature folk and jazz tunes as well as piano pieces performed by the Somerset Trio.

The matinee concert, which includes tea and refreshments and is dubbed Canadian Music From Far and Wide, takes place Friday, June 28 from 2:30 to 4 p.m. at City Centre Community Centre.

An all-Canadian musical lineup includes folk tunes from Joni Mitchell, selections from jazz-giant Oscar Peterson and romantic, whimsical piano trios by Edward B. Manning and local composer Christine Donkin.

The Somerset Trio is comprised of music professionals including Richmond-based violinist Alana Lopez, cellist Ben Goheen and pianist David Antoniuk.

The trio formed for the purpose of creating and presenting unique concert programs, specifically designed for intimate concerts. The trio combines music of a range of eras and genres from the classical canon to original arrangements of today's popular tunes. For information about this group, go to somersettrio.ca.

Tickets are $12 per person with advanced registration and tea and refreshments included. Tickets are limited and will only be available at the door for $15 if space permits.
