As a city that boasts its variety of cuisines to satisfy everyone's appetites, it is no surprise that nine of the 41 honors at this year's annual Chinese Restaurant Awards went to Richmond restaurants.
To celebrate the best of Asian cuisines in Metro Vancouver and their dedication to brightening up the local community, the event organizers launched a ceremony on Tuesday to present 41 awards to chefs, industry staff and restaurant owners.
"Delicious food always brings people pure delight. We learned so much to appreciate more about life and cherish everything we have during the past two years. Why not have a meal with friends and families when we have so many amazing restaurants in Vancouver, especially in Richmond," said Rae Kung, the managing director of Chinese Restaurant Awards.
The most prestigious honors were reserved for the Critics' Choice Signature Dish Awards, which are decided by professional food critics.
First and second place for this award was presented to Bamboo Grove Restaurant for its abalone ginger and green onion hot pot dish, as well as its geoduck with soft scrambled eggs.
Forth and ninth place were given to Chef Tony Seafood Restaurant, with its beef feather tripe with spicy Sichuan peppercorns, and Memory Corner, with its chef’s mixed deep-fried appetizers, respectively.
Suhang restaurant came in 12th with its signature dish Dong Bo Pork, and the 13th spot was given to the Fish Man for its sour cabbage fish hotpot.
Meanwhile, Uncle's Snack Shop, which only opened up this year, won the Chef's Choice Chinese Cuisine Award - Game Changers.
The Hotpot Place and the Fish Man restaurants were also both recipients of this year's Ocean Wise Awards for their efforts to renew menus with sustainable seafood choices.
