Metro Vancouver weather: Beginning of September looks 'wetter' than average

More than a few extra raindrops may fall at the start of meteorological fall.

Environment Canada can't observe individual weather systems, such as anomalous heat or cold, beyond 10 days, but the start of fall 2025 looks wetter.

The long-term Metro Vancouver weather forecast includes wetter, cooler conditions.

Although temperatures aren't expected to dramatically nosedive following sustained summer heat, September isn't expected to feature above-average heat.

Environment Canada meteorologist Matt Loney tells V.I.A. that the department may issue a heat alert for the Lower Mainland if overnight temperatures increase during a stretch of hot temperatures starting on Friday, Aug. 22.

While temperatures on the coast look like they won't rise above the mid-20s this weekend, they could reach over 26 C by mid-next week. Inland temperatures could climb over 30 C, and feel as hot as 34 C with humidity.

However, the warm weather trend doesn't appear to persist beyond Aug. 28 and 29. Although it isn't clear exactly what pattern will follow it.

Metro Vancouver weather forecast: What will the beginning of September look like?

Environment Canada can't observe individual weather systems, such as anomalous heat or cold, beyond roughly 10 days.

Still, the department has an idea of weekly or monthly temperature and precipitation averages for the upcoming month.

"The models show a wetter signal for the first two weeks of September, but normal temperatures," says Loney.

He notes this prediction doesn't account for individual weather patterns, but shows a transition from the generally warmer-than-normal temperatures experienced over the summer.

Meteorological fall kicks off on Sept. 1, ahead of the equinox on Monday, Sept. 22.
