What does it take to make a great match when it comes to finding a wedding, prom or special occasion dress that’s perfect for you?
Ella Lau, owner of Mia Boutique in Steveston, says much of it has to do with creating a true relationship with the client, something she has successfully done for the past 15 years.
She originally opened her boutique on No. 3 Road, across from Richmond City Hall.
That was five years ago, when Mia Boutique moved to its gorgeous and peaceful waterfront home in Steveston Village. Lau loves the new location and feels blessed to have this business.
“I enjoy knowing and helping my brides and customers every day in the store. We share every happy moment when they find the dress for their once-in-a-lifetime celebrations,” says Lau, who used her background and expertise in fashion merchandising and manufacturing in Hong Kong to set up her own bridal store.
“Customers come here mostly based on word-of-mouth and referrals, that is a result of the trusted relationships I have developed with my clients over the years,” she adds.
And when they arrive, Lau’s close attention to the customer’s needs is at the heart of her service.
“For example, a bride buying her wedding dress is a very emotional situation,” Lau says. “So, we listen very carefully about what they want to ensure they get the perfect match.
“I think I have a superb selection of wedding dresses both in styling and quality which my customers appreciate. I am very picky when I select my dress collection from the International Bridal Fashion Shows I attended,” Lau says. “With my experience in the fashion industry, I can see not only what the best in style is but the quality of the fabric, the fit and the workmanship of the dresses.”
Lau’s success has been well recognized.
Mia Boutique has been a five-year recipient of the Consumer Choice Award (2017 - 2021) in the category of Bridal Store in Vancouver region. And for the past two years, the boutique has earned the British Columbia Wedding Awards in Bridal Accessories Provider of the Year (2019 and 2020).
“I am grateful and honoured that Mia Boutique has been voted as winner of all the awards received in the past five years,” Lau says, “customers have been very happy with their shopping experience here and write us touching reviews that make us strive to do our best in providing service to each customer who comes into our store.
“Many customers, in their reviews, not only say they enjoyed the good service but the genuine way we go about seeing their every need is met.
“People can really feel that personal touch we provide.”
