Sockeyes looking to rebound against Trappers

Richmond also hosts White Rock on Thursday

Impressive rookie Garrett Wicks (16) is among the Richmond Sockeyes currently on the injured list.

The Richmond Sockeyes will look to get back on track with a pair of games in 24 hours starting tonight in Langley.

The injury bug has slow the club’s momentum of late, including a 2-1 overtime loss last Saturday in Port Moody and a 6-0 setback to the Pacific Junior Hockey League leading North Vancouver Wolf Pack two nights earlier at Minoru Arenas. The Sockeyes (13-4-1-2) are now eight points back of the defending champions in the highly-competitive Tom Shaw Conference that sees the second through fifth place teams separated by seven points.

On the shelf for the Wolf Pack showdown were two of the team’s top six leading scorers — Michael Araki-Young and Garrett Wicks — along with key defenceman Thomas Von Schoenberg. To help fill the void the Sockeyes called up three players from the Major Midget Fraser Valley Giants — Dakota Miller, Jacob Dorohoy and Benjamin Vornbock.

The Sockeyes also host the White Rock Whalers on Thursday ( 7 p.m.) and travel to Grandview on Sunday to face the Steelers in a pair of key games against conference rivals.

The club also announced a trade on Tuesday, sending first-year defenceman Luka Zilic to the Delta Ice Hawks for the playing rights to Richmond native Dillon Maher.
