Richmond's Chris Crisologo has repeated as South American champion, winning a playoff against Costa Rica's Luis Gagne in Chile on Sunday after climbing up the leaderboard with a final round 69.

Richmond’s Chris Crisologo is back-to-back champion at the South American Amateur.

The 22-year-old national team member defeated Costa Rica’s Luis Gagne in a playoff Sunday after both players finished at 7-under in the 72-hole event, held at the Los Leones Golf Club in Chile.

Crisologo entered the final round three shots off the lead but forced a playoff with his second 3-under 69 of the tournament thanks to a bogey free round. The former SFU standout then prevailed on the second extra hole to join American Scott Harvey as the event’s most recent repeat champions. He won the 2018 tourney in Argentina.

“This is a different triumph, it's a very different field. It was a privilege to be here and it was a very fun week at the end. You had to be precise from the 'tee', I played my golf at the end,” said Crisologo.

Canadian teammate Brendan MacDougall of Calgary finished T26 at 5 over par.

Crisologo was earlier recognized for his 2018 season with Pacific Northwest Golf Association’s Player-of-the-Year honours.

Highlights included being the low amateur at the PGA Tour’s Canadian Open at Glen Abbey — finishing tied for 45th. He also captured the B.C. Amateur and qualified for the U.S. Amateur.
