The Richmond Senior Boys Basketball League MVP has signed with the Langara Falcons.

Daniel Afanasiyevskyy closed out his high school career in style — with a leading role in the Richmond Colts advancing to the provincial tournament for the first time in 17 years.

The 6-foot-2 guard can play much bigger than his size and thrives in transition with his ability to attack the basket.

The Colts defeated St. Thomas More at the Lower Mainland 3A Championships to earn a B.C. berth. Afanasiyevskyy was a second team all-star at that tournament.

Richmond went to the Langley Events Centre as the 14th seed and stunned No. 3 Argyle in its opener before falling to No. 6 Pitt Meadows in the quarter-finals.

Afanasiyevskyy is the latest in a long list of local high school basketball talent to join a Falcons program headed by longtime Richmond teacher/coach Paul Eberhardt.

Langara was third at the PACWEST Championships last season and will hostng the 2019 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Championships next March in Langley.
