Hitting the ice for KidSport

Fifth annual hockey jamboree raises over $3,700 for charity organization

The Richmond Kidsport Jamboree ice hockey event just keeps on growing and that’s great news for the non-profit organization that financially assists city children in playing organized sports.

Proudly sponsored by the City of Richmond and Stanley’s Bar and Grill, the fifth annual event was held last weekend at the Richmond Ice Centre.

It attracted eight teams and 115 players — ranging from 13 to 68 years of age. Following three days of action, this year’s tournament raised $3,745.25 — easily surpassing its goal of $3,000 and well beyond the $995 the inaugural event generated. In total, over $10,000 has been donated to Richmond Kidsport since Denise Danicek came up with the idea.

“It initially started out as an ideal of ways we could raise funds for Kidsport. With the help of my RACA (Richmond Arenas Community Association) friend Lan Wong, we decided we could run a small fun jamboree bringing friends and family along to come play and raise funds,” said Danicek. “We started  off small but there is no limit where we can go!”
