A one-time standout with the former Seafair Minor Hockey Association is taking his career to the Western Hockey League this season with the hometown Vancouver Giants.

Forward Lucas Svejkovsky has signed with the WHL club and will be at training camp later this week in Ladner after a productive stint with the B.C. Hockey League champion Wenatchee Wild.

“We are extremely excited to have Lukas signed and committed to the Vancouver Giants organization,” said Giants GM Barclay Parneta. “He’s an incredibly skilled and dynamic player who we feel will develop into a high-end point producer in the WHL.

“Lukas and his family had no shortage of options when it came to his junior hockey future, and we couldn’t be happier to welcome Lukas and the Svejkovsky family to the Vancouver Giants organization.”

A resident of Point Roberts, WA, Svejkovsky came through Seafair’s rep program and was part of a dominant Pee Wee A1 team that happened to be coached by his dad Yogi — a former NHL defenceman and longtime development coach with Seafair.

Originally selected by the Giants in the second round (36th overall) of the 2016 WHL Bantam Draft, the 5-foot-9 Svejkovsky is coming off a strong 16-year-old season.

In 16 regular season games with Wentachee, he had 11 points, including five goals, and added a goal during their run to the Fred Page Cup. He chipped in with four assists at the Royal Bank Cup national junior “A” tournament as well.

Earlier this summer, Svejkovsky attended Team USA’s Select 17 Summer Development Camp where he was named to one of the two all-star teams. He finished the tournament with two goals and three assists.

After leaving Seafair, he spent three seasons in the Delta Hockey Academy — playing for the Bantam Prep and Elite 15 teams.

“It’s an honor to sign with the Vancouver Giants,” said Svejkovsky. “It's been a dream of mine since I was a kid and to have it happen is unbelievable. I can't wait to get started and I'm excited for what lies ahead for my teammates and I.”

Svejkovsky is eligible for the 2020 NHL Draft.
