The defending champions are off to solid starts but the Sharks are definitely circling in the Richmond Senior Volleyball Leagues.

A strong showing at last weekend’s UBC Tournament has the Steveston-London Sharks at No. 13 in this week’s B.C. 3A boys rankings. It marks the first time in recent memory the Sharks have appeared in the provincial rankings. They also opened city league play last week with a 3-1 win over the McMath Wildcats.

Meanwhile, defending city champion Richmond Christian Eagles remain among the province’s top ranked “AA” schools in the No. 10 spot and also opened league play last week with wins against MacNeill (3-1) and Richmond High (3-1).

The two early season favourites are slated to meet on Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. when the Eagles travel to the Shark Tank.

Meanwhile, Steveston-London’s senior girls team is also off to an impressive start with straight set wins over Palmer, McMath and Richmond High to begin city play.

Defending Richmond champion McRoberts opened its league schedule with a win over Burnett on Tuesday and host the Sharks tonight (5:30 p.m) in an early season showdown.
