Whether you’re crossing off your to-do list or just doing a little window shopping, Lansdowne Centre has been a local favourite for nearly 50 years.

In the heart of Richmond, this bustling shopping spot offers more than just stores, it’s where locals connect, find hidden gems and enjoy everything from tasty eats to pop-up markets.

From racetrack to retail

Long before it became a shopping hub, the site on No. 3 Road was home to the thundering hooves of racehorses at the Lansdowne Park Racetrack.

“From 1924 to 1973, the land on which the mall sits was home to grandstands that held up to 4,500 people and a clubhouse for 1,000 people,” says Bronwyn Bailey, marketing manager. “It was considered superior to the track at the Pacific National Exhibition and attracted some of the best-known horsemen on the continent.”

Lansdowne Centre is now home to a diverse range of national and international retailers, but what makes Lansdowne Centre especially unique is its many specialty stores selling products you won’t easily find anywhere else.

“Lansdowne Centre offers a unique mix of everyday essential shopping and destination shopping,” Bailey says.

Out of the mall's 120 retailers and services, many are locally owned and operated shops, so you can enjoy the satisfaction of supporting Metro Vancouver businesses.

For the shoppers who love supporting local makers and small businesses, the seasonal weekend pop-up markets have become a popular event. The Market Fair series gives new vendors a chance to showcase their products and connect with people in the community.

“There is also our pop-up retail program, which is an opportunity for local businesses presenting seasonal and specialty products on a shorter-term basis,” Bailey says. “It’s also exciting for our shoppers to discover new up-and-coming local businesses.”

Delicious dining and events

And after a long day of shopping, no trip is complete without a tasty treat. With six full-service restaurants and an award-winning international food court, Lansdowne Centre offers a delicious range of options. Whether you’re craving handmade dumplings from R&H Chinese Food, bold flavours from Fusion Curry or a stacked donair, the food alone is reason enough to visit.

Bailey says the centre takes pride in being part of Richmond’s everyday rhythm, helping to bring the community together through lively events including concerts, fundraisers, and even a circus.

Unlike national chain malls, Lansdowne Centre is not tied to a corporate franchise, something Bailey says lets it stay connected to the heart of Richmond’s community spirit.

Sometimes, the community comes together all on its own. “For example, more than 200 local seniors gather inside Lansdowne Centre for their morning Tai Chi exercise every morning before the stores open,” Bailey says.

So, whether you’re shopping, socializing or just soaking in the local vibes, the mall is a one-of-a-kind experience—it’s uniquely Lansdowne.
